The District Winners of the "Kentucky's Wildlife" 2007 Jim Claypool Art Contest and Conservation Writing Contest were:
1st Place: Karlee Caswell from Stonewall Elementary
1st Place: James M. Shofner from Crawford Middle School
The Fayette County Conservation District has been involved with the Conservation Art and Writing Contest since its inception. Both contests are excellent to use in the classroom for core content lessons. Tabloids will be distributed in October to each teacher. If you need a classroom set, please call us at 859-254-5806 ext 3. Classroom and teacher sets are completely free, thanks to the Louisville Courier Journal, Kentucky Division of Conservation, and Kentucky Farm Bureau.
The 2007 Conservation Essay Contest is designed for Kentucky students in grades 6-12, and the Jim Claypool Conservation Art Contest is for students in grades 1-5. Schools are asked to pick their top 3 entries (without ranking them 1st, 2nd, 3rd) to the Conservation District. Judges will pick each school's winners, as well as a County Winner for each contest. Awards will be presented as follows:
State Awards: First-$500 U.S. Savings Bond Second-$200 U.S. Savings Bond Plus a personalized certificate
Area Awards A personalized certificate to the essay and poster winner in each of the nine Soil and Water Conservation Commission areas.
District Awards A personalized certificate & cash award to the essay and poster winner in Fayette County will be presented by Conservation District. Cash prizes are awarded for the top three in each school & county winners for each contest. County winner in each contest will go to compete at the area level.

2006 Art Contest Winners
Essay Contest Winners This year, only one school participated in the essay contest. That school was Crawford Middle School. The school and county winner was Alex Trujillo. County runner-up and 2nd place in the school was Michael Berry. Third place was Whitney Scott. Congratulations to these students for their hard work! |
