         2010 Cost Share Programs

CAIP

(County Agricultural Investment Program)

Fayette County has been approved for $150,000 for 2010. This year's application is a unified application letting you apply up to 3 programs with a cap of $5000 to be received in total a year. With no lifetime limits any longer, you may apply as many years as you would like to participate in the program.  Fayette County Conservation District will be the administrator of this program, where in the past, we shared these responsibilities with the Cattlemen's Association.

Scoring will be utilized, as in the past, and lack of "tobacco dependency" shall not render a producer ineligible for program participation. A total score of 90 is possible, and 20 extra points are possible with Fayette County's additional questions. Pesticides and fertilizers will not be cost shared, but labor will be.

A new investment program will be introduced as On-farm energy Efficiency and Production. This program is designed to encourage energy efficiency and production of useable energy with their farming operations. Hopefully, with this new program, it will offer financial incentives to encourage farmers to adopt new technologies, renovate existing facilities, produce energy related crops, and invest in other measure that conserve or generate additional energy on their farms.  This could help with the cost of hiring technical expertise for farmers so they may have a competitive advantage in applying for other grant programs, or design, implement, and operate measures to conserve or generate additional energy on their farms.

The 11 Investment Areas for 2010 are:
